In Austria's Caribbean, Lake Wörthersee, a vengeful geologist causes the façade of the decadent tourism clans to crumble with targeted explosions. If the local hoteliers fail to thwart his insidious plan, they will lose their lives – or even more devastatingly – their entire wealth.
Synopsis
Our series begins with a major undertaking. After years of bickering, the railway track, which runs directly along the northern shore of the lake and occupies the best lakefront properties, is finally being relocated into the karstic ground - under Lake Wörthersee.
ERWIN SCHMACHTL (40s), a methodical Viennese geologist who provides the master plan for the excavation work, is plagued by shocking revelations made to him by his foster mother on her deathbed. He therefore not only delves deeper into the work on the tunnel, but also feverishly searches for his roots at the idyllic Lake Wörthersee.
Erwin’s apparent stringent ecological guidelines ("Without biodiversity, the drill stands still") bring KARL RAUTER (50s) to the brink. The narcissistic neo-hotelier and real estate shark passionately advocates for the interests of the local tourism industry, unaware that Erwin is actually indifferent to the endangered microorganisms but secretly driven by entirely self-serving goals.
"AM WÖRTHERSEE" combines the exaggerated social critique of TRIANGLE OF SADNESS, the ingenious thrill of LAW OF REVENGE and the colorful hedonism of THE BEACH BUM, telling the unparalleled story of a tourism hotspot that has seen better days.
